Are You Just a Hollow Shell?
I took last Sunday off…and the world kept on going without me. Can you believe it?
This is a really sad confession. Last Sunday was probably the first day I’ve taken off – completely – in more than a year. I mean off. Didn’t touch the computer (well, I did sneak a peak at e-mail first thing in the morning.)
I spent the day with my wife sitting on the deck in shorts and bare feet basking in the unseasonably warm weather.
Then we took a walk in the woods — which we hadn’t done in a long time – just to see what had changed. And after three years of living in the woods, not surprisingly…

I’m a Millionaire…I Am, I Am…
Today, I wrote not one, but two checks for $1,000,000.00 each.
Mine and my wife’s.
Today, we each are millionaires!
Except we’re now overdrawn about $2,000,000.00 in our checking account too…
But that’s not the point.
One of my favorite stories is about Jim Carrey, the wild comedian who starred in Bruce Almighty and The Truman Show…

Peace at What Price…
Muhammad Yunus won The Nobel Peace Prize for 2006. On Dec. 10, he gave an acceptance speech.
You can view the full speech here. I was astounded by the sincerity and vision of the man, but really astounded when I read that he represented a bank…

Gratitude is the Antidote for Fear
There are so many types of prayers:
- Formal prayers on bended knee and
with hands folded, head bowed in supplication. Some people believe that God only
hears these prayers.
- Foxhole prayers that usually contain the phrase:
God, help me out of this mess and I’ll NEVER (insert the offense here) again.
For many, this is the only prayer they know.

Brothers in Arms. . .
Sitting next to my son, USAF Staff Sgt. Matthew Perdew, I watched as my
youngest son, Seaman Ryan Perdew, marched onto the quarterdeck with his
division.
Matt wiped a tear from his eye when he saw his younger brother dressed
in white, wearing a sailor’s cap, standing at attention in a sea of
white uniforms. Ryan was completing his 8-week training at Great Lakes
Naval Station north of Chicago to become a real sailor.
The national anthem played and . . .

How do you spell F-E-E-L G-O-O-D ? A-K-E-E-L-A-H!
I don’t get to the movies very often any more, so when I go I want to make sure that I’m not disappointed. We just came back from one that left me weeping, cheering and feeling great!
Like Sylvester Stallone in Rocky (Rocky 1 that is), this 11-year old girl struggles with heartache and . . .

Earth Day is not just any ol’ day. . .or is it?
I never thought much about Earth Day. To me, it was just a day when a lot of people got together and cleaned up parks and roadsides. Not me. . .other people.
And that’s cool. I like the Earth. How could a day celebrating it be bad?
But I wasn’t really connected to it. In fact, I lived in the city for so long, I’d forgotten there was much of the Earth out there.
But a few years ago, my wife and I moved to the deep forest where we got wrapped up in the preservation of all life around us. Cutting downs trees to build our house. . .

Feeling a little lusty here in North Alabama . . .
We’re in the midst of a Spring extravaganza as my wife says. Temperatures are rising and soon it will hot and humid.
But today, in the forest where we live, the trees have exploded into avalanches of green, and the stream is alive with the sounds of love. . .well, maybe it’s lust.
